Tiasha J. Garcia brings her creativity and storytelling gifts to her students with short, original works written exclusively for the classroom. Using costumes, props, and a lot of exaggeration, Ms. Garcia creates comprehensible input to assist students on their Spanish language acquisition journey. Currently she has five published novels: La Pena de Crecer (Level 2); La Leyenda de Ted (Level 1); Amor y Muerte en Tiempos de Zombis (Level 2); Seis Meses de Soledad (Level 1); and El Zombi Vegetariano (Level 1). An avid fan of Star Wars and Marvel Comics, she strives to bring more authentic representation and inclusion of strong Latino characters to the science fiction and fantasy genres.
Ms. Garcia is currently the World Language Department Chair for Roseville City School District. In the past she has also served as the English Department Chair for Elk Grove Unified School District as well as holding the same position with Merryhill Preparatory School early in her career. She has also served as an English Language Development Coordinator and Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports Coach. Her past recognitions include “Teachers Who Makes a Difference” (2019) and “District Teacher of the Year” (2000).
Ms. Garcia holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Whitman College; a teaching credential from San Francisco State University; a master’s degree and administrative credential from the California State University of Sacramento; and is contemplating a doctorate as soon as she can figure out how to bend the space-time continuum in her favor.
